The schedule of the week leaves plenty of time to explore the surrounding area of Pema Osel Ling, so here are some thoughts on activities.

On site at POL, there are trails to explore, the largest Stupa in the U.S., and of course there is a swimming pool if you just want to relax!

If you want to go a little further afield and explore the surrounding area, there is a whole "Corralitos Wine Trail" specializing in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay where the wineries are almost all open on weekends, at the very least by appointment. The trail is:

Windy Oaks Estate (their vineyard has views of the bay from 1000 feet up)
Alfaro Winery
Pleasant Valley Winery
Nicholson Winery

If you are the adventurous outdoorsey type, there is Nisene Marks Forest for hiking (though there's hiking on the grounds of POL, too!), and Elkhorn Slough for kayaking or canoeing. There is a well traveled biking circuit through the redwoods that runs through Corralitos...folks at the market listed next can guide you in the right direction.

In Corralitos there is a small quaint market famous for making their own artisinal sausages, lots of varieties, on site: Corralitos Market. You can get one as a sandwich and eat right outside in the little park in front.

POL isn't too far from Moss Landing for great seafood. In Watsonville there are incredible amounts of authentic Mexican food. Higher end for Mexican food is Cilantros...yummy, and family friendly. A great new establishment with awesome wood-fired pizza and bbq is Smoqe between Watsonville and Aptos. Also higher end for Watsonville is Green Valley Grill...good food!

If you want the true California experience, there are plenty of beaches around. Capitola is great for tourists from out of town, and there is always the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, a seaside amusement park. Gilroy Gardens is amazing for families with little kids...clean gorgeous theme park with rides for the small set. Soif is a wine bar in Santa Cruz worth a visit for true wine afficianados. There's also the Bonny Doon Tasting room and restaurant.

So there you have it! Enjoy exploring....
